Ángela María Bohórquez Oviedo
Ángela María Bohórquez Oviedo is a Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations
from the University of Delaware in the United States. She holds MAs in Social Sciences from
Universidad de Caldas and Université Paris-Est Créteil Val de Marne, and an MA in Political
Science and International Relations from the University of Delaware. Her bachelor’s degree
is in Communication and Journalism Studies from Universidad de Manizales. In Colombia
and the United States, her multicultural and bilingual teaching experiences prioritize and
value individuals’ differences and center around identifying the causes of persistent forms of
precarity and power. Her interdisciplinary research connects Political Science, Comparative
Politics, Women and Gender Studies, communication studies, and journalism. Bohórquez
Oviedo’s work explores theoretical and practical explanations for the recognition and
inclusion of women and the LGBTI population for peace. Her doctoral dissertation,
‘Weaponizing Gender: The Campaign against ‘Gender Ideology’ in the Colombian Peace
Plebiscite,’ explores the role of anti-gender ideas in shaping the national debate of the 2016
Colombian peace plebiscite. Her dissertation earned the 2021 George Herbert Ryden Prize
in Social Sciences of the University of Delaware as the best dissertation in Social Sciences.
Her doctoral dissertation was supported by a University of Delaware Dissertation Fellowship
2020-2021 and a University of Delaware College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Student
Travel Grant 2019.
